And just when I was starting to think Shanghai fits the mold of any other major US metropolis...

As we were walking towards the subway this afternoon some man in a lawn chair on the sidewalk reached into a big bucket and pulled out a large writhing snake/eel. Holding it by the neck tightly in midair, with it still very alive and none too happy, he took a pocket knife and began slowly splitting it open lengthwise, right as we walked past him. We quickly tiptoed around the mess it was making on the sidewalk. I'm not sure who was more surprised, the eel or Caro.
